A group of Washington residents, who created the Farmers Mutual Insurance Company, founded Enumclaw Insurance (then known as Farmers Mutual Insurance Company) in 1898. The residents’ main purpose for forming the company was to secure local farm and other country buildings, as well as personal property, from being lost to fires or lightning. In 1966, the company officially changed its name to Mutual of Enumclaw Insurance Company (Enumclaw Insurance).

Also in January of 2010, Eric Nelson the former Senior VP became president and CEO of Mutual Enumclaw Insurance. The company itself has remained privately held and has approximately 516 employees in the four states that it has a license to do business.
